☮.♥.✮ ☀..✈: Shite Days For Me
27 November, 2009

Sometimes people feel that you are incapable or inefficient if you keep your mouth shut. "Silence is Golden" ─ that's what we think while others may take that as our weakness. It's good to follow Gandhi but it also tells people that you are a timid, though that's not the truth.

How should one react to such circumstances? I prefer to leave and take some time out instead of blurting out stuff to inflict pain on others. Last Tuesday, my Mom & I got into a fight because it turns out that my uncle's death is related to some big syndicate and I was being accused of being selfish for not wanting my own mother to get herself involved with it. It was Mom & I having an argument so I was surprised when my brother suddenly snapped at me.

Yes, I was attacked verbally.
And another unfortunate thing that happened, he threw a chair at me ─ TWICE. The first one didn't get close to me because I was far from him. Then he moved closer and picked up one of the chairs in the Dining Room and threw it at me. It's good that my reflexes are quick ─ I just got a few scratches near my right knee that's covered with band aid right now and my right wrist, though it's bruised and sore right now, it should get better in a few days.

So I've left the house that day to spend the night somewhere far from them. I did went home Wednesday evening, but my brother was acting all high & mighty. I am convinced that I would be better if I am not living with them. This doesn't look like something that would be easily fixed. I'm not the type of person who easily forgives especially if I was hurt. I can forgive, but it will take time. Do I forget? I don't.

Sad thing is, my Mom is not showing any signs of listening to me and seems to be taking my brother's side. I don't know what would justify such acts. Regardless of how evil someone is, no one has the right to take another person's life, the same way that no matter how angry or disappointed you are, you have no right to attack a person verbally, call him or her names, and much more throw chairs at people.

It sucks when you just feel tears forming in your eyes, but hey no one wants to be a solitary weeper. Meanwhile, I've been reading about REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9262: AN ACT DEFINING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN, PROVIDING FOR PROTECTIVE MEASURES FOR VICTIMS, PRESCRIBING PENALTIES THEREFORE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. If such violence will happen again, I wouldn't think twice about this. My brother has to be taught a lesson.

--
If you're reading this and you personally know either my brother or I, I'd ask you not to repeat the story to other people. If they find this post, okay ─ BUT it should not be through YOU. Let them find this on their own. I know this isn't a private blog, but I have my reasons for writing about this. I hope you respect my decision.

Hi Russ. I'm relieved you didn't get seriously hurt. I personally don't know your brother and I'm not in a position to judge but what he did was terribly wrong. And to do it twice with the purpose of really hitting you? Something is definitely wrong with this picture. Please try to find another place to stay for a while if you feel the situation getting tense again. I don't know how I would feel if that happened to me. I couldn't imagine any of my brothers doing that to me.

Hey russ. How are you doing?
I think you're right to move out...these things take time, and everyone's heads has to cool off muna. Just stay with someone you trust. It won't do any good trying to make sense out of this, nor resolve things this early...what your brother did was wrong. If it's an argument, it should stick to just words. Anything more than that is wrong! take good care.

Hi Russ, this is too personal, I am sorry to hear this.

I hope you and your bro settled in and talked things out and your knees are fine.

Have some ice-cream, o?

While I believe the circumstance of your uncle's death are undoubtedly stressful, your brother's actions were inexcusable (if he wants to throw a chair, then fine, but it must not be directed at people).

To quote from my favourite philosopher (even if he persecuted Christians): "When we reject people in anger, or turn on them with the aim of inflicting pain, we damage our souls even more." - Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor, 121-180 CE (Meditations, Chapter 2)

I am so sorry to hear this dearie.

Remember few months ago i had a fight with my bro where he broke the glass door on our room and both of us got hurt,so i can understand how you feel,at least a little.Even though the situation was a bit different in my case,i bet you were as shocked as i was after my bro's attack...

Family drama is one of the worst things there can be... :(

I do really hope it will all get better in time.

And just as you said,"Forgive BUT don't Forget!" *hugs tight*

oh russ! sounds like something from a movie!

anyway, i guess you're really going through a rough time. i admire the way you handled things calmly. you're right, violence is not the answer.

i hope you have friends or relatives you can run to. you need the right people to guide you during these times.

and yeah, if you can, move out for the meantime. i'm scared for your safety. pity that it is your own brother [and mother] doing this to you.

will be praying for you dear! hugs and kisses!

whew. good for you for taking the high road. everyone seems to be stressed out because of the death of your uncle. i, too, am an advocate of the golden silence. I only unleash firm insights when necessary, but the delivery is still laden with calculated care. others see our silence as our inability to be assertive, but that's alright. it's better to shape our own consciousness of life and who we are with what we think than with what others think. -- www.moreducation.weebly.com

Aww sis, this is a sad post. I can't believe your brother threw chairs at you. It really makes me sad. Why are people becoming cruel nowadays? Just pray sis. Be safe okay? Don't let your brother do that to you again. *hugs*
